Who’s My Favourite Travel Companion
On this Mother’s Day, I’d like to shift the spotlight on my favourite travel companion – who is none other than my Mom. I have written about why I enjoy travelling solo. Today, I’d like to take this opportunity to pay a sweet little tribute to my mother who has supported me tremendously in my journey as a traveller. She is an open-minded, strong-willed and an optimistic woman who loves to travel just like me. In fact, the courage to travel solo is something that I have inherited from her. So, I can’t thank her enough.
I firmly believe that one should choose a travel companion wisely, because if you travel with someone who is unlike you, it may ruin your joy of travelling. For instance, if you like to hike, while your travel companion can’t walk ten steps, it would be a sore experience. What do you say?
I like travelling with my mother because –
She’s enthusiastic and energetic
Although she has aged, she’s full of energy. She’s always open to exploring, hiking and visiting new places. Of course, there are times when she just wants to relax and not walk as much as I do, but she’s mostly active and curious about new things. When we went to Dandeli, she was ready at sharp 6 am for a morning trek.
She’s patient with my photography
Someone like me who loves photography needs a patient travel companion. Fortunately, my mother allows me to do my own thing. She understands that it’s important to me and I should do my best. There have been times when I take so much of time at a particular place and I can clearly see it on her face that she’s exhausted, but she bears with me.
She clicks nice pictures
On our first trip together, I made her click so many pictures of mine. What I appreciate about her is that she followed my instructions perfectly. She understood exactly what I wanted in the frame and delivered just that. My love for photography can get on people’s nerves, but my mom never whines about it.
She’s a nature lover like me
Both of us love natural beauty. If we had our way, we would never leave natural surroundings. I’m glad that I could take her along to Dandeli, which was completely a nature-driven trip. We explored the forests – its flora and fauna, enjoyed a coracle boat ride, admired the villages, relaxed in the midst of trees and simply embraced the pristine environment.
She’s observant, a good listener and appreciates all the good things
I like the fact that my mother draws my attention to a lot of things while we are travelling. Whenever someone tells her something unique or interesting, she remembers it. I am not really a good listener. I tend to ignore something that doesn’t interest me (even if it’s important in some way). However, my mother keeps track of everything, which helps me later.
She takes care of hygiene
It would be difficult for me to travel with someone who doesn’t take care of hygiene. Whenever I book a hotel, I ensure that I get a clean bathroom and a tidy bed with clean linen. My mother and I maintain cleanliness wherever we go, thus, our travel experience together is even better.
No wonder my mom is my favourite travel companion. I ABSOLUTELY love travelling with her.
