Sattal – In a trance…
Serene, soulful and sumptuous, a rendezvous with nature is Sattal’s true essence, which is embedded in its lakes, forests and the surrounding mountains.
Have you ever experienced real rejuvenation? I mean, have you heard stillness speak into your ears and have you really felt soaked into serenity? Sattal is all that and more! A place near Nainital, settled amidst imposing mountains, is the holiday that I nestle closest to my heart. Pristine, beautiful and inviting, Sattal was originated from seven small lakes. I still remember how awestruck I was the moment I reached there and to my fortune, I got to stay in an old cottage, part of Methodist Ashram.
Kumaon is so beautiful, and Sattal is definitely one of its best places to visit.
My cottage had three spacious rooms with a kitchen, a bathroom and a balcony. The place was comfortable to live in every respect. I got to enjoy a quaint fireplace that we miss out on in our cities. Since the ashram was built in the British times, it had an intriguing colonial appeal. Also, there was St. John’s Church that added to the mystical aura of the place.

Every moment is a vacation here with mesmerizing hills and mountains by your side. Fresh air and nature never take their leave. Enjoy long walks or simply laze around in your room’s balcony, or if you are an adventure lover, try out rock climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, etc. Explore the place on your own and at your own pace.
Although the idea of bumping into monkeys and other animals may discourage you from going deep into the forest, hiking amidst the oak and pine trees is inviting. What I enjoyed the most was light drizzles along the way and clouds gathering on the mountains. It was amazing to see dark haze and then the clouds fizzling away slowly.
If you plan to visit this surreal hill station, switch off the hustle-bustle of your world and surrender to its tranquility.
